ISN’T LIFE JUST FULL OF SURPRISES AND KILLER PUNCHES????

And when Life suddenly decides to throw those series of killer punches AT YOU…nothing could prepare you for it.  By punches, I mean the trials and “tribulations”, or crises.

To be honest, I did not feel like posting anything today because of the emotional roller coaster I just went through  but I came across a blog post from thriveglobal that I was totally inspired by.

Thought I’d share my own take on it  because I found it helpful and it just might help someone out there who is also dealing with crisis (pandemic, typhoon, personal or family crises?)

What series of punches did I deal with ?

On top of the COVID pandemic, and having to survive and thrive in the new normal, and some financial setbacks, we had a very serious family medical crisis just this week (at the height of the typhoon Ulysses, nonetheless).

Yup, the event had left me dazed. It literally felt like a killer punch on the face.

I’m just glad that at this moment, as far as our medical crisis is concerned, the worst is over.

Truly grateful for such a good outcome, all factors considered.

No one can really say they have all the instructions on how to punch back or on how to get back up on two feet after a series of killer punches.

One thing is for sure, when faced with this situation, you have a choice:

GET KNOCKED DOWN AND STAY DOWN, OR GET KNOCKED DOWN AND FIGHT YOUR WAY BACK!

So how do you deal with a series of killer punches and bounce back?

  • First and foremost, TRUST GOD.
    • We don’t need to understand the WHYs at the moment.  But we need to understand that God allows trials in our lives to help us grow and mature into HIM. God uses trials to be our teacher and to make sure we become the person He wants us to be.  His Everlasting Promise is that if we trust in HIM, He will provide us all that we need to punch back and get back on our feet.  From 2 Corinthians 12:9:
    • But He said to me,  “My Grace is sufficient for you,  for My strength is made perfect in weakness.  Therefore most gladly, I will rather boast on all my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

       

  • Second, ASSESS YOUR OPTIONS.
    • No matter how bad your situation is, you always have options.  The moment you realize this, you get the power to punch back.  No matter how simple they may be, think about your possible options then write them down.  This may lead to that light bulb moment that will help you bounce and fight back.  Try to separate facts from fears.  When we do this, many times the solutions become obvious.
  • Third, CONNECT WITH YOUR LOVED ONES.
    • Connecting with your loved ones especially your family and friends during times of trials give you the support you need to help you bounce back.  Support is very important emotionally, physically and financially.  During this time of crises, who else do we draw the most comfort and support from but family and friends.   Support is vital to bouncing back.  Don’t be afraid to lean on it.
  • Fourth, APPRECIATE THE LITTLE BLESSINGS.
    • No matter how bad your situation is, there are always little blessing that come your way to ease the burden.  Take some time to reflect on this. God’s little mercies are put in your path to ease your burden.  They may come in persons, events or things that make things a little easier for you or to bring a little sunshine to your stormy day.  Magnify these blessings.
  • Fifth, FOCUS ON THE CARROT.
    • Don’t stop believing.  Keep dreaming of what happens at the end of the trials.  The carrot is the end of all the trials.  The time when all the difficulties are over.  There is no reason to believe you cannot punch back and bounce back.  It is always just a matter of time, but you will get back on your feet again.
  • Sixth, SEEK HELP.
    • Many of us are independent-spirited and independent-minded. We hesitate to ask help because we are shy, embarassed or we just think it is not appropriate.  But when we truly run out of options, then we must not be afraid or hesitant or too proud to ask help.   People who truly care for us are always willing to help.  Sometimes, All we need to do is just to ask.
  • Seventh, TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME.
    • When we are dealing with a series of trials or crises, it can be very overwhelming.  Many times, the future is unclear.  One-day-at-a-time thinking reminds us that patience is a virtue. By limiting our horizon to just one day we are more  adept at dealing with the problems at hand.  We only need to focus on what we can do to get through the present day.  No need to spend any time or energy on the things that are out of our control.

I hope these tips will help anyone dealing with a series of trials these days.

Even when we get knocked down by a series of punches that life throws at us, we can bounce back.

 

 

Bounce Back!

 

 

 

And when we do bounce back, our faith grows stronger and we learn and we grow and we become better.

We become much more resilient, too…

That is another carrot to look forward to.
